The lathe was available in two versions, the precision DLZ140/DLZ190 and the super-precision DLZ 140S/DLZ190S fitted with super-high precision tapered roller bearings and a finely balanced spindle. Both had variable-speed drive with a gear (1:7) and clutch switchable whilst the lathe was running (for example, to cut threads with at low speeds and then to run the tool back at high speed) - as well as a conventional backgear. The speed range was an impressive 15 to 3100 rpm.
