Since 1865, Zenith has remained faithful to the spirit of enterprise of its creator, Georges Favre-Jacot. 

Zenith was born to a 22 year old named Georges Favre-Jacot. He was one of the first to understand the importance of the interchangeability of parts for rationalising production, thereby improving precision and reliability of mechanical watches. 
He grouped together all the different areas and know-how that make up watchmaking. Thus, one of the very first true Swiss manufacturing companies was born. Through its numerous innovations, ZENITH has always contributed to the development of top class watchmaking . This Swiss company is not only one of the oldest horological companies, but one of a handful that still produces its own mechanical movements. 

By the time Jacot retired in 1929, Zenith had made watch history, winning grand prix medals for timekeeping precision at international expositions in Geneva, Paris, Barcelona, and Neuchatel. In 1969, Zenith won renown for introducing the world's first automatic chronograph movement, the El Primero.

Oscillating at 36,000 alternations/hour, the El Primero was able to measure short time intervals to a tenth of a second, an unsurpassed world record. In 1995, Zenith launched a new generation of ultra-thin chronographs, the Elite, recently voted best mechanical movement by the professional press. Since its beginning, Zenith has been recognized with more than 1,565 first observatory prizes in chronometry, making it the Swiss brand most rewarded for precision.

</p>1865: Georges Favre-Jacot founds, at 22 years old, the ZENITH watch company, called at that time "Etablissements George Favre-Jacot".

</p>1896: Gold medal at the Geneva Swiss National Exhibition.

</p>1900: Gold medal at the World Fair in Paris.

</p>1903: First prize in the Chronometric competition at Neuchâtel's Observatory. These awards are the first in a fabulous prize list. With 1447 first prizes and 88 series first prizes, ZENITH is the Swiss brand the most often rewarded for its precision by the chronometric observatories. 

</p>1911: Aged 67, Georges Favre-Jacot retires. This pionneer was one of the first watchmakers to understand the importance of the principle of the interchangeability of parts. The"Etablissements George Favre-Jacot" change their name to Zenith after the mechanical movement, famous for its precision and reliability. 

</p>1929: "Grand Prix" at the World Fair in Barcelona. 

</p>1960: Start of manufacturing for the mechanical movement 5011 K, holder of the absolute record for precision in its category. 

</p>1969: ZENITH takes up one of the last big challenges in mechanical watchmaking:the launch of EL PRIMERO, the first integrated automatic chronograph movement in the history of watchmaking art.

</p>1995: Launch of the ELITE movement, a new generation of ultra-thin manufactured automatic calibres. Voted "best mechanical movement" by the international professional press.
