Although not a traditional watchmakers' lathe the Favorite was tiny lathe, just 31/32" centre height and 65/16" between centres. It was, naturally, of the finest Swiss quality, built to Schlesinger standards and available with a range accessories designed to assist work in watch, clock, jewellery, dental, tool-making and experimental laboratories. It was painted in a "hammer-finish" lacquered green paint. The main elements of the lathe, and its accessories, were designed to be interchangeable with the earlier Favorite 2. Unlike other small, high-quality lathes, the favorite's hardened and ground headstock spindle, driven by a round belt, ran not in plain bearings but in a double-row ball bearing on one side and a roller bearing on the other. Depending upon the countershaft unit and motor specified, speeds of up to 12,000 rpm were available whilst the headstock bearings were pre-packed with grease sufficient for over 1000 hours of running. The left-hand face of the headstock pulley was provided with two concentric circles of indexing holes numbering 48 and 60 respectively whilst the right-hand face had 12 holes for use by a stop bolt. Besides the accessories illustrated on the following pages a wide range of horological attachments was available including a vast number of collets and several different styles of tailstock.
