The Derbyshire Micro Drill Press was designed for the drilling of very small holes, not as a regular drill for every-day work. Drill bits were held in standard, lathe-type collets.

The Micro Drill Press has been available in various specifications - including this top-of-the-range model with a 0 to 4000 rpm variable-speed drive unit (capable of 10,000 rpm with special pulleys) and a swivelling-base toolmaker's vise mounted on a 2" travel (in each direction) precision compound-slide rest; the vise jaws opened to accommodate material 13/16" wide. The quill feed was by a weight-counterbalanced arm with spring return.

A simpler version of the Micro Drill Press with round-belt drive and  non-adjustable table.
